„Arbeit am Kopf“ „Arbeit am Kopf“

„Arbeit am Kopf“ | "Work on the Head"
An interdisciplinary pilot project
for defending democracy with the help of hairdressers

„Arbeit am Kopf“ aims to put into practice the surprising study results of Oxford climate researchers Dr. Sam Hampton and Dr. Briony Latter. They found that hairdressers can influence people’s thinking and actions more effectively than scientists. So if hairdressers consciously use their salon conversations in the future, could this often underestimated and underpaid profession help save our democracy and even the climate?

Participatory art project (Work in progress) | Start 2025
The pilot project setting:
Flyers, improvised hair salon made from donated furniture, reading table (Hamptons/Latter study and welcome note, the German Constitution, current coalition agreement as a magazine, political and philosophical magazines of various perspectives).
The pilot project program:
Outreach and networking (involving the study authors, hair salons and their clients, democracy networks, and the art audience), ad-hoc haircuts while the salon opening, open meet-ups and an argumentation workshop for and with hairdressers, project presentation at the annual general meeting of the Hairdressers’ Guild, collecting ideas for the next steps (perhaps a large-scale “Arbeit am Kopf” campaign?).
